many of us like to see selections of good stuff that didn't get featured for a variety of reasons. not to mention it helps promote the people you showcase.
like xeiavica said above, if you're not constantly pinging people, it should be fine. though some people like to know when their art is being featured somewhere. maybe ask the artists you plan on showcasing if they'd like to be pinged?
